what do you guys think about the larger schools this upcoming season? last seasons final league standings for aaa were:

1. penfield
2. gates
3. rush
4. fairport
5. brockport
6. pittsford

gates went on to beat penfield in the sectional finals. what changes do you think will be made to these standings next year. who will be the powerhouses of class aaa next year?

I see gates as being the most powerful entering the 07 season coming off of their sectional title, and they still have playmakers like 6 foot 4 dillard around. Fairport, Penfield, and Rush all have of alot of seniors to replace. However, the skill players and defense of Penfield as well as Rush's offensive and defensive lines look promising. Fairport has some serious rebuilding to do if they hope to compete like they once did under Santini. Pittsford is losing Apostolakos, but he only had 20 receptions last year. He was more of a force on defense. Pittsford may prove to be a spoiler in Section V by relying on primarily the running game. Brockport does return Stavalone, who is impressive, but their overall ability and coaching may not be enough.

The actual standings were as follows:
1. Penfield
2. Rush Henrietta
3. Gates Chili
4. Fairport
5. East
6, 7, 8 Pittsford, Franklin, Spencerport (?)

(AAA Sectional teams, Webster was somewhere near the bottom, either 9th or 10th. Brockport was a AA team as of last year)
Personally, I don't see drastic changes in AAA this year. Each team has juniors filling in vacant spots left behind by productive seniors, especially the most successful teams (Gates, Fairport, Penfield). As reigning champs, Gates has to be the favorite, especially with Dillard returning, as DiMarco said. But I also see teams like Rush Henrietta, Fairport and Penfield contending for the title. Also, I cannot imagine Schroder having a sub .500 record again this year. Expect a team seeking for revenge.

whoops my fault. i was looking at the monroe 1 divisional standings, not the aaa ones. but i agree with you nonetheless. i see gates, penfield, rush, and fairport forming an upper tier of play next year. thoughts?

The one problem with Gates and Penfield is both teams are losing their whole offensive lines. Fairport and Rush return the majority of their starters on the offensive line. To me, this is the crucial part of a high school team and will deicde the contenders from the pretenders. A team with a big, talented line who can pound the ball up the middle will have success. This was why Penfield lost vs Gates at Paetec. Gates was able to adjust to the windy conditions and run the ball with consistency. If I remember correctly, the Gates quarterback (who I think will cause serious issues for the team this year) threw no more than 10 passes! On the other hand, Penfield, a pass-oriented offense, was unable to adjust to the weather and had no offensive production. In my mind, Penfield was the better team. However, their inability to adjust on that given day cost them the sectional title.

Any comments? It seems as if me and DiMarco are the only fans of AAA football. Was this forum created striclty for small schools?

It wasn't created for small schools but it appears that the larger schools have less of a following online. It was that way with the old section V basketball board as well. There were weveral posts about Steuben Count League and Gennessee Valley but hardly any from Monroe.

Spread the word! We've had an easier time of spreading it in the small schools. Many of the larger schools seem more against this type of a forum. Hopefully we get more and more Monroe County and large school discussion going. We're just a grass roots site and the only way more people come to discuss is if more people are told about it!

I think Gates has to be the favorite going in. They return many strong players from a championship team. I believe East will challenge along with Schroeder. Schroeder was really down last year, but they were very young and return one of the best passers in the area, Andy Spadoni. Kid has a great arm, and I think with a year of seasoning their D will be better this year.

I'm not at all familiar w/ Schroeder, due to their lack of success last year. Who is this Spadoni? Is he going to be a senior? I've heard rumors on the Syracuse forum of a talented young quarterback from Penfield taking over this year. Does anyone have any info on him?
As for your comment on East, it's like rolling a dice. They are so talented year in and year out, but lack of discipline seems to hurt them and cause great inconsistency. Honestly, I see another down year for them. I haven't heard anything special about a single player on that team and quite frankly, I think the coaching staff is horrible.

I think its tough to speculate on the seniors of this upcoming season who didn't play well last year or didn't play at all. Just because a player will be a senior doesn't mean he's going to be great. The Varsity level is alot different from JV, so players who will make their first starts senior year have to adjust quickly in order to succeed. Thats the beauty of high school football, especially in a competive region like Section V. Other than a few locks like Collier and Zapata, you never know for sure who will make a name for themself from year to year. Nonetheless, guys like myself love to relive the glory days and try to predict the future on these forums.

Spadoni is a Jr. who started this past season. Also a very good catcher in baseball, started as a Soph. on Varsity. Not real fast, but great arm, strong kid, about 5'11" 200lbs. As for East, I really like Brigandi and his staff and think they have done a great job since arriving at East. I really think East will be a contender this year, started many underclassmen last year, and with a year of Varsity exp. they should be very good.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see how Spadodi performs this year. As for East, I really never should have made that comment. I've just had a bad taste in my mouth since watching them in the 2004-5 AAA finals games. I was very displeased with the players' sportsmanship. I shouldn't directly blame the coaching staff for that. I'm sure they are good men and that they work their tails off for the program.
While we're on the subject of city schools, does anyone see any success from these schools? Marshall, who had a hell of a season loses a lot of talent but will have Muhammed, whose enthusiasm and motivational skills are impressive. Wilson returns Rakim Stubbs, who made fantastic performances at linebacker and as a powerful tailback.

Do you think East can win the C-C this year though? Last year they got beat up on by Marshall and McQuaid.

I know they aren't AAA, but how much of Marshall's team that beat Churchville-Chili last year is returning? Was Crummity a junior or a senior last year? What about Eddie Jackson and Darryl Thompson?
