A game that might have an impact on class DD tonight will be Alfred-Almond vs. Jasper-Troupsburg. Both are 5-0 and 2nd and 3rd respectively in Sectionals right now. Any predictions? Also, does anyone have anything for Fillmore, Alfred-Almond or Jasper-Troupsburg in class DD?

Class DD is loaded with Talented teams, Alfred-Almond & Fillmore are probably the top two followed closely behind by J-T & Prattsburgh from Steuben County league and Genesee-Valley from Allegany County.
Prattsburgh is a sleeper if they're taken lightly they'll surprise someone. You find a faster soccer player in the area than Wade Fuller he's amazing in the open field, and his supporting cast is very talented.
J-T is always strong and is definately a contender for the DD Title. They have scorers are at every position and are very strong defensively
A potential A-A/Fillmore Sectional Final will be one to watch if it happens......

Alfred-Almond is 5-0 going into tonight they've shutout 4 of their 1st 5 opponents outscoring the oposition 28-1, they have several "Weapons" so to speak, the top guy is Aaron Rygiel who has 4 goals and 8 assists, Matt Olix is another guy to keep an eye on he has 7 goals & 3 assists through 5 games. Their defense is awesome and their overall team skill level is tremendous. One key stat to look at 26 of their 28 goals have been assisted.
Fillmore -5-0 with huge wins over Class B powerhouse Livonia & class B's LeRoy & Olean. Very balanced team with multiple weapons to throw at you, they've outscored their opponents 28-5 with 21 of those goals assisted. Led by senior Midfielder Devon Martin with 6 goals & 6 assists, fellow midfielder John Mark Pocock has 4 goals & 3 assists and Alek Potter has 6 goals & 3 assists.
J-T-Also 5-0 has yet to be tested with the exception of a tough game vs. always strong Naples. The test will come tonight from Alfred-Almond. J-T has only allowed 2 goals in their first 5 games, outscoring opponents 20-2. with 13 assists. Senior Attacker Jimmy Willis is leading the scoring charge with 9 goals & 1 assist, senior midfielder Caleb Drake has 3 goals & 2 assists Junior Dustin Updyke has 3 goals & 2 assist. Sophomore Goal Keeper Brennan "B-Man" Thurber has allowed only 2 goals with 26 saves. the Stat that sticks out to me with J-T is the 132 shots on goal in 5 games! Fillmore has 95 & A-A 92 but this could stem from the level of competition but either way it's impressive.
Prattsburgh -5-1-1 record so far, has lit up the scoreboard the last few games winning games in the last week 8-2, 7-0, 3-0 & 8-0 have some talented kids upfront. they've outscored opponents 31-9 in 7 games with 28 assists on those 31 goals. Led by "Lightning quick" senior Wade Fuller 6 goals & 7 assists & Senior Midfielder Dustin Drake 9 goals 1 assist also providing offensive fire power are Junior Midfielder Dylan Dibble 5 goals 4 assists & Junior Tyler Ortiz 4 goals 3 assists. Senior Goalie Doug Lewis has recorded 3 straight shutouts.

J-T has won sectional titles in 7 of the last 11 years. While they are not the total powerhouse they once were, they are very well coached, have an excellent core group of players, and have a history of playing well in big games.
Tonights game with AA should provide some gauge as to how they will compete against the best DD teams. Currently I think Fillmore and AA are the top two teams and I give Fillmore the edge based on the success they have had against larger strong soccer schools, but you never know.

Tonights game was a thrilling match of two soccer powerhouses. Although I give A-A the slight advantage of being a better soccer team, the two played to a 0-0 tie. The two play again sometime just before the end of the season in Jasper. Hopefully it will be up to the same level of competitiveness as today's game was. What does anyone else that was at the game have to say about it?

How was the game played? Was there a lot of shots on goal that didn't connect? OR were both coaches playing conservatively?

Pretty much throughout the game, both teams were attacking each other pretty hard. Although A-A had more overall shots and opportunities, J-T held their own and took it to the tough A-A defense and got shots of their own. There was one point kind of late in the second half where the ball got past the A-A goalie and Jim Willis shot and scored but was called offsides. That was the only ball to find the net in the game. Overall both teams had an answer for the other on defense. Rygiel was heavily pressured when he had the ball and his teammates definitely were good enough to work through it. I think J-T changed their formation to attack A-A and get a quick goal but the defense held them off. A-A had one opportunity where the ball hit the crossbar but the J-T goalie picked it out of the air on the rebound. It was a well played game by both sides, it was quick and skillful. It almost felt like a sectional game, because tempers flared often due to frustration by both teams and both teams wanted that win that bad. Definitely a great game to watch if you enjoy soccer. A-A had 15 shots with 8 on goal. J-T had 8 with 7 on goal. A-A had 3 corners and J-T had 1.

Does anyone have any info on the Fillmore vs. Houghton game or the Arkport vs. Alfred-Almond game?

Fillmore beat Houghton 2-0 last night. They scored on a corner kick in the first half where the ball bounced around in front of the net and was put away, and scored in the second half on another corner kick headed in. Houghton had four or five chances to score but couldn't finish, as where Fillmore had six or seven chances and capitalized on two of them... it was a well played game for both sides. Fillmore suffered a loss in all of it as Devon Martin was in a collision and probably broke his nose late in the second half. Ryan Campbell got MVP honors, Damon Allen and Devon Martin were ATT for Fillmore, Tyler Mastin and Bryan Kim got ATT honors for Houghton

Alfred-Almond finally managed to defeat Jasper-Troupsburg tonight in Jasper. Although the final score was only 1-0, the Eagles dominated in almost every aspect of this game. A-A outshot J-T 17-2 but J-T led in corners 5-1. A-A senior Matt Olix scored with less than 10 minutes left in the game. Wildcat sophomore goalie Brennan Thurber did a great job keeping J-T in the game but they couldn't generate any offense against the A-A defense. We could see a third matchup late in the sectional tournament.

#3 J-T has upset #2 Alfred-Almond 2-0 tonight. Both of J-T's goals were scored in the second half by Jimmy Willis and Caleb Drake. I don't know the exact stats for the game but A-A outshot J-T with goalie Brennan Thurber stifling all shots on goal. J-T prevents A-A from an undefeated matchup with Fillmore that beat Prattsburgh 1-0 in OT.

Fillmore defeated J-T in the 1st overtime 2-1 to win it. I have never seen a more bizzare finish. J-T scored with about 7 minutes left in the game and was cruising to victory then with 2 seconds left, J-T scored an own goal on a freak play to tie it and Fillmore put one by the goalie to win it. what does anyone else have to say about it?

J-T killed time by kicking it out of bounds repeatedly. Fillmore worked it up the right side, with the field announcer going into the countdown. At 5 seconds, Devon Martin made a long throw-in to the top of the box and it bounced out to Damon Allen. At three seconds, Allen took a weak shot which looked to be going wide . The announcer stopped counting down at the shot, however, the wide ball was deflected on target by a J-T defender. I'm not sure what he was thinking. He caught his keeper heading the other way. The ball cleared the line 2 seconds before the field horn sounded end of regulation. There was no question whether time had run out before the ball crossed. J-T seemed defeated at that moment, and did not put up a strong fight in OT.
In my opinion, there are at least two lessons:
1. Never stop playing your game. If J-T had played possession and run for the corners, they had it wrapped up. Instead they opted for an out-of-bounds strategy that ultimately worked to Fillmore's advantage.
2. Never stop playing. Fillmore's desperate attempt to push the ball up for a final shot did not stop at the 10-second countdown. IMHO J-T may have let down, especially when the ball went out at the 6 second mark.
It was a close finish but it was a 90-minute game, not 89:50.
