Oregon RB Legarrette Blount punched a Boise State player in the face the other night. He is suspended for the rest of the season. As a junior last year he rushed for over 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.

As a senior he got PUNKED on the smurf turf. Ran for a whopping -2 yards and got tackled for a safety after reportedly running his trap all week long before hand. Then he acts like a complete idiot afterwards. So what if the guy said something to him, if he was yapping all week he needed to take it after the beatin they took on the field! And then to want to go into the crowd and have to be restrained the way he did... he's lucky he only got what he did. Another great role model for our kids!

At first glance, thinking about it this morning, I thought Blount should have been suspended for 2 or 3 games, to send a message. However the more I thought about it, the more I realized how idiotic this kid is. Todd McShay says that after speaking to an NFL executive, Blount went from a 2nd or 3rd rounder in the draft to being "completely undraftable", considering Roger Goodells stance on these sorts of things. I wasn't quite sure of what I would have done had the decision been on me, however I am not disappointed to see him suspended for the season. However, I would not have been completely against a 6 game suspension with counseling. All in all its an unfortunate situation.

This was one of the dumbest things he could have done. He acted non professional and killed his nfl chances. I thought he should have been kicked out of school. He was wearing the ducks uniform and acting like that i would be embarrassed if i was that school.

That may be some people's opinion that he cannot be drafted. I would disagree, as other NFL players have committed FAR worse infractions, and still made it in. If the kids has talent, and I'm not totally familiar with him, he will go somewhere. Someone will be willing to overlook this incident, and get him some counseling. I'm not condoning what he did in any way, but the NFL has the worst characters on their rosters (simply because of the # of players), in all of pro sports. NBA is a close 2nd. It's one of things I hate about pro sports.

I applaud the Oregon coach for taking this action. The kid behaved like a punk.

Let's not forget he was even throwing punches at his own teamates. Has it been reported what the Boise St player said to provoke such an outrage?

We won't know exactly what you said, but it was probably something along the lines of "How does that loss taste you b****"
If I was in charge and the decision was on me, I would suspend Blount for 6 games and have him enter counseling.
For the Boise player, I would have him suspended for one game.
It seems that the instigator is the one who always gets off, so I would want to make sure that the Boise St. player gets some punishment as well.
This type of post game jawing happens all the time, only this time Blount reacted poorly and cost himself a lot, perhaps million of dollars in the NFL.
I believe in second chances and would not want this kid to lose his entire future because he lost his head for a few minutes.
In response to ExLaxer, yes some players have done far worse things, however this is different because he does not have a chance to redeem himself this season on the field. The only time he can prove himself to NFL scouts and GM's again is in March in work outs.

But ya gotta remember , BLOUNT was really the instigator too....he ran his mouth all week before the game and then after his ass couldn't cover the check his MOUTh had written he acted like a 5 year old after it got returned to him. A real man swallows his ego and takes what he has coming to him. He needs counseling and I think he should have a shot at the NFL, but should already have about strike 1 1/2- 2 against him. As for the Boise player, his coach was right there next to him and if the coach knows what he what he said so he should be able to decide pretty easily if it warrants a suspension. I've got very strong feelings about fighting in sports, but I won't go on that rant right now! lol

I thought he said something to the effect that Oregon owes Boise State 2 butt whuppins now. That was in response to Blount's pre-game "we owe that team a butt whoopin" smack talk.
BigRed, you're right he won't get the chance to redeem himself, so he'll have to impress these NFL teams in nother ways. Mainly, they will want to know if the kid is a "ticking time bomb", because now character counts almost as much as talent.
Maybe the season long suspension was a lttle too much, but he's now been made an example of. Oregon, and other players better take notice. That is true "zero tolerance".

Let me say up front Blount from here appears to be behaving like a model citizen. He very well may have cleaned up his act. However, I just wonder how many second chances we owe kids. I'm dealing with this in basketball right now.
I really think at some point you have to tell a kid I'm sorry but your few days, weeks or good behavior doesn't wipe away acting like an idiot.
Again I hope Blount is what he appears. If he has cleaned up his act then I hope he is successful.

They should have suspended him "indefinitley" with the option to return at a later date. Either that or, there should have been a "cooling off period" before they laid down the law.
Of course, the PAC 10 and Oregon athetics department were embarassed and probably felt the need to act swiflty and decisively. It appears they were too hasty if they change their minds a few weeks down the road. Knee jerk reactions typically lead to these types of problems.
Oregon football coaches and administrators basically told everyone he would "never play another down at Oregon". By reinstating him, that makes the complete athletic department (and the PAC 10) look foolish. Make a decision and stand by it, even if it is later judged to be too harsh. I hate the "wishy washy" style of decision making.
How will the players react? There have to be issues concerning unity and team chemistry.

BLOUNT ran his mouth all week before the game and backed it up with -2 running yards and getting tackled for a safety. The Kid from Boise didn't deserve Sh....! Blount should have been a MAN enough to sit there and take what he had coming to him. You're gonna run your mouth before a game you better be able to back it up on the field...and blount COULDN'T so he acted like more of a chump and sucker punched the guy. I'm just glad they didn't let this idiot back for the USC game, at least now Oregon lost to Stanford they are out of National championship picture. Can't wait to see how long it is before this guy BLOWS his NFL career.

yeah that girl from NM ought to have her scholarship revoked. That wasn't one incident that was a whole game of garbage. I wonder if someone went back thru her game tapes what they would find.
