what about Onondaga with Mike Hart?

or the CBA teams that ran up the classes in Section 3?

here's a good place for research: http://www.section4football.com/stateplayoffs/

lets review my top picks as the greatest teams in NYS history are:

1, Jamestown Red Raiders (section 6 class AA) -Jamestown a section 6 power has been down since legendary coach wally huckno stepped down in 2003.In 1993, Jamestown had a great team w/DAVID HINSON one of the greatest backs western NY has ever seen . Jamestown has had a great history of backs including Hinson and most recently Aaron Leeper who helped upset Webster in 2000 16-14 in the Western regionals. Back in 93, Jamestown lost to a powerful North Rockland team from section II 24-12 then in 1994, in a rematch for the Class A state title Hinson and co. ran over North Rockland 26-20 Jamestown would follow that w/ a state finals appearance in 1995 beating Section II's Shenendowa 32-18. Jamestown followed that with a state title in 2000 winning over new rochelle with all nys rb aaron leeper rushing for total 47 tds.

2. I would have to give the #2 spot to Section V power Cal-Mum my alma matter I know I know im a homer but who will disagree? Cal-Mum won 3 straight state titles from 93-'95 and lost to section I's Valhalla Vikings 12-8 in the '96 class c state title game after coming 1 yard short of winning 4 straight state titles. Cal-MUM has played in a total of 19 state games most in NYS history. Dont forget the 49 game winning streak 1978-81.

3. I will give the #3 spot to our rivals LeRoy, now LeRoy has 9 state appearances most in NYS history over the past 10 years besides Section 3's Syracuse CBA with 8 . LeROY has played in 17 total state games. LeRoy had a great team back in 1996, they beat cal-mum that year 35-14 and had one of section v's highest scoring offenses ever averaging over 40 + points a game. They beat section 3's Cazenovia and they're star Rb Elliot Ivey 19-6 then lost a hearbreaker to Section 2's Watervliet .

4. Onondaga Tigers- This team was insane with Mike Hart and Co. 3 state titles and an incredible offense gives this team the #4 spot for all time best NYS teams.

4-Tie. Sry but I have to give a tie here to Syracuse CBA-III. Head coach Joe Cosamento always has a great team and the team alway as a buch of D-1 recruits including Trevor White who played against Cal-Mum in 1997 and whom starred at Boston College, who can forget the Paulus's. This is one of the best teams in NYS any year period.

5. Aquinas- We all know the history of Aquinas maybe they should be no. 4 but some down years will put them in the #5 spot. Aquinas ricj with treadition has played many out of state teams especially bac in the early -mid century. If you want to know more about Aquinas football pick up "When Football Was Bigger Than Life" at Sticky Lips BBQ the owner Howie Nielson could sell you a copy of both volumes. Aquinas had a state appearance back in 1998, beating Clarence,F-M of Syracuse, and Queensbury of section II in the state finals. I beleive that year Queensbury had alineman that is now playing in the NFL??? Aquinas woul follow that with a strong team in 2002, featuring marck magglioco, calvin hall, arel gordon and mcmahon beating nyack ,sweet home and elmira fa enroute to a state title i can remember AQ beating syracuse CBA a few years back as well and standing tough to a canton mckinley team losing 28-7 in 2002.

6. Lackawanna Steelers from section 6. Lackawanna is a bonified Section 6 class B pwoer and seems to always win that class switching off with Eden every now and then .Lackawanna has 3 state titles and won the state title in 1997, beating section 5's hornell and section 1's brewster team enroute to the state title . Lackawanna won the state title again in 1998 and fell short in the 1999 state title game to harrison of section 1 22-18. lackawanna just like cal-mum did went to 4 straight state title games the only two teams to do that in nys history. Lackawanna went to the 2000 state title game losing to roundout valley 21-0 after beating hornell 37-20. They had a great rb recently named curtis underwood.

7. #7 goes to section 4's chenango forks. Now this team is awesome after having they're 38 game winning streak halted by rye in 2006 28-7 they are now back on track going 68-4 over they're lst 72 games this is a nys record this team is always strong. go to theire site and you'll know.

8. The #8 spot goes to Webster Schroeder who was just sweet from 1999-2003.

9. Faiport who won the state title in 1997 and lost to Troy-2 in 1998.

10. Tie- 2001 Canandaigua and Massena from Section 2 who had a 55 game winning streak

I think you have to differentiate between the "Webster High" teams and the Webster Schroeder teams that came about after the split up.

Is this poll about greatest tradition or greatest NYS teams like the thread title states?

-If it's tradtion you could easily make a case for CM and LeRoy anywhere in the top 1-5. But if it's the greatest teams I would have a hard time putting a State Champ class C-D school over a State Champ AAA school as who was the better team.

There are many great programs sighted here but many have been missed. I'd have to vote for the '75 Penn Yan team with Tony Collins and Chris Chris on it. The "79 East Rochester team also comes to mind. Clyde also had many great teams in its hay day. The most shocking thing I've read here though is Greeceman voting for AQ...lol. ( Just Kidding )

That Penn Yan team (actually '76) was phenomenal. Two NFL players, Chris Crissy and Tony Collins on a class B high school team in upstate NY.... crazy. Ironically Crissy and Collins were both drafted by the Patriots but Crissy was traded to the Redskins. Collins actually made the pro bowl in 1983 and played on the Pats Super Bowl team that got dismantled by the Bears.

the penn yan team was phenomenal.. to have two players of that caliber in such a small school is almost unheard of.. probably the best team ever in the region

Just the two of them although they had a couple other players who probably could played small D-1 and several who could have played D-3. Just a phenomenal team.
