Cool Aquinas moving up to AA

Hey RJE you've told us for the last couple of years that Aquinas does move up from B to A every year, which they do. Well what are they going to do now since their combined BEDS numbers (roughly are 624) with Nazareth makes them an A school?? Are they going to bump up next year to become a AA school in football??

I believe they only take the male population in to account for boys sports and female population for girls sports. Therefore, since Nazareth is an all girls school it wont change a thing as far as the boys sports are concerned. The girls will be a different story.

That is not correct MrRochester. The BEDS number is used by the Department of Education to determine state aid. It is based on the number of students in 9-11 grades and includes both male and female students. NYSPHAA uses the BEDS numbers for the convenience of classifying schools for sports.

Aquinas will have a BEDS number of 628. This is based on AQs current 499 and Naz having 129. BEDs numbers for single sex schools are doubled for classification purposes ie. McQuaid Jesuit, Mercy and until today Naz.

To answer your question, I don't see this having any impact on

AQ's classification for football as they will still be within the parameters for an
A school. Aquinas has been an A school for years now and has opted to stay in that classification even though after their enrollment in recent years would have allowed them to move to B.

If they AQ were to move up and AA splits into AA/AAA I'm assuming they would be a AA school, so still not in the top division

Does Aquinas make the decision to move up a class or not or is that decision made by someone else?
