Top Local returnees
I would be most interested in developing a list of some of the top local baseball players to " watch " in 2007. I can begin by sharing some of my pre-season thoughts on the teams I am familar with:
Campbell is returning Sam Wood. He should be their top starter on the mound this season. He is a fierce competitor. Zach Simpson also throws and Joe York should be solid up the middle.
Coby Hahn should be a stud for Arkport this season. He is a powerful lefty and should hit, again, for a high average. He has batted well over the .400 mark these past few seasons.
Avoca loses Class D Player of the Year Shawn Eaton, but returns Joe Wallace ( 1st team class D All State ) who should be extremely effective on the mound while providing solid support at short stop when he is not pitching.Fred Klock is a returning catcher wiht a great deal of experience behind the dish. Brian Kidder heads some others that could make Avoca a contender once again for the Sectional crown.
Bath/Haverling is coming off of a Sectional BB Championship last season. Although they lost 8 seniors, ( particularly Dan Tunbison @ LeMoyne this season ) they should not be overlooked to defend their crown. senior Andy Ratchford should fill the top spot in the rotation with soph. Mike Rossi and junior Brad York close behind. Rossi leads the returness batting .330 in his freshmen season on varsity. Brad York and junior Brett Havens also hit over
.300 for the year. Many spots should be capably filled with JV players who are coming off of an 18-1 junior campaign in 2006.
Hornell returns DJ Swartz and Kyle Binder who should fill the # 1 & # 2 spots in the pitching rotation. Steve Smith is solid behind the plate & Bryan Canty does a nice job at short stop with his athleticism. They should definitly reach the final four in Class BB.
Others ????

Players/teams to watch
That's a pretty solid list
Avoca-You left out Tony Galvan who will be an important part of the team also returning is David Hogan who will once again start in Center field. Adam Crooks will likely be the #2 starter, also returning is Matt Rodbourn who could also be a solid role player.
Addison-With Jamie Martin back, a solid lefty and a few other players Addison will remain strong.
Campbell-Savona-With Wood and Simpson providing a solid 1-2 punch on the mound and a few good bats, including Catcher Mike Larebee C-S will be strong.
Arkport-Koby Hahn is one of the best pitchers in section V, he'll keep Arkport as contenders not too sure what they have back for hitters, that'll decide what they do in sectionals.
all in all the Steuben County league should remain tough with a few teams competing for sectionals, Avoca & Arkport in DD and C-S & Addison in C

Which one
Last season I went to watch Attica play in a sectional game. They played MidLakes and Attica had, both a tall right hander and a crafty lefty who both threw for them. Is Pete Kosek either of these throwers ?? Just curious ... Thanks

Any time any of the southern tier teams (any class C or lower) want to play a Monroe County team bring it on. It not the same baseball. Monroe County teams are bigger schools and better teams.

Sam Wood will be the key pitcher for C-S as well as providing a bat. Andy knowles is the catcher for C-S and he is a decent hitter. Up the middle is anchored by SS Will Cornett who has great range and athleticism, he was also the leading hitter on the team last year. Wood and Cornett have been on varsity since 9th grade and a few others have been on the team since 10th grade

Kosek definetly is not a lefty. He can throw fast, but not 85. He does have a nasty curveball though. Plus watch out for newcomer from JV, Steve Huber and his filthy pitch all the GR players will see. It's better than Dice-K's gyroball.
