Individual stars of the game!
This thread is about all softball stars of the game, whether they win or lose. There are not always alot of stats available or game situations talked about for our players on both sides of the win or loss. So this is some time to talk about their individual effort and or game winning plays on offense and defense, pitching or catching. Whatever, give the player a nice line about their game. Thanks.

In yesterday's Greece-Odyssey vs Northstar 10 inning game, a play in the 7 th inning, where a line drive shot was hit back to the pitcher from Odyssey, Megan Coffey, that drilled her in the left shoulder. She got up, then fired the ball to first base to get the runner out. After the play, she collapsed and time was given to tend to her. She got up to finish the inning and the game in which they won 1-0. This was truely a play to remember. Coffee finished the game with 12 k's. Great Effort!

In that same game:
Allissa DiMartino, the junior pitcher from Northstar, recorded 22 strikeouts in that 10 inning game vs Odyssey. That must be some kind of record! DiMartino, who pitched a 1 hitter, had a perfect game going for 6 2/3 innings. She has not allowed an earned run yet this season, and has 53 strikeouts in only 3 games. She also has not walked a batter. This girl has to be a legitimate D1 prospect, since she is only a junior. She not only is a good pitcher, but she is a very good fielder leads her team in batting. Off the field, Allissa is an A student in her schoolwork. Her father and coach, John DiMartino, has been in contact with many colleges, and is looking for a good fit for his daughter. He says if she continues to work hard, on and off the field, stays heathly, and keeps her grades up, that she has a good chance of playing D1. Great Effort! Keep it up.

That is a great job by Allissa. What schools are showing interest?

I'm not sure since my converstion with John was more about the game and his team. He went on to say that he was looking and talking to some schools about the school itself, like education, facilities, etc; and a place his daughter would be interested in going. Since she is only a junior, and has another year of playing and getting ready for college, Allissa probably wants to enjoy her HS team right now. But I'm sure she will draw alot of interest this year.

I might be wrong but I am thinking college coaches are starting their recruiting for 2010 graduates.

It would make sense to me if college scouts start on the player's junior year, since the student needs to make their choice of school around or just after Christmas time. Alot of schools are full by spring. So if you want to choose where you go, you have to decide by Jan. 2010, before your senior season even starts.

I would think the spring of your senior year would be the time to decide where you wanted to go. Most colleges (D3) want deposits by May. I only know this because of my own kids when they went to college.

But if you want to choose where you want to go, and take the specific courses that you want to take, you may need to make the choice in the month of Jan.-Feb. There are plenty of colleges to choose from, but when you narrow it down to the specifics, it's best to get it as early as possible or you may not get what you want. I know this because I already have had 4 in college, and if you wait too long, you won't get the courses that you want.
But I would like to hear from some players out there and comment on some great plays or stats they can share with us.

I thought this might be worth mentioning. Alyssa DiMartino, Northstar junior, pitched a perfect game on Monday vs Lima Christian. She also had 17 K's in that game. So far in 5 games this season, DiMartino has not walked a batter, and has an ERA of 0.00. She has 70 strikeouts total, and is batting around 700. I would also congratulate the team, and catcher, on the perfect game since they also had to make the plays for her. Great Effort!
